A young girl, Katy, adopts a wild mustang she names Flicka, only to see her father sell her now beloved companion. To win back Flicka's freedom, Katy secretly schemes to enter a dangerous wild horse race.

Katy McLaughlin, born and raised on her family's Goose Greek Ranch in Wyoming, instinctively knows that her place is there among the mountains where the mustangs, especially a filly she names Flicka, roam free and wild. But the ranch is failing, her brother Howard wants no part of it and her father Rob is close to selling the ranch to developers. Desperate to prove herself to her father and save the ranch, Katy defiantly embarks on a course of action that pits her and Flicka against a wild cougar, a dangerous race open only to men, and her father's iron will. Inspired by the novel 'My Friend Flicka', Flicka will make you cheer for Katy, a young girl and her horse struggling to keep their place in the Wyoming mountains they love.
