The Amazing Mare Sapphire
Breyer announces newest 2010 Portrait Model Edition
By Nancy Jaffer

She's an iconic chestnut mare, a superb performer with as strong a desire to win as her rider, McLain Ward. Sapphire lives up to her name as a jewel of grand prix show jumping, the female equine standout of this era.

Her blaze, which looks like an upward pointing arrow foretold her destiny. The 15-year-old Belgian warmblood and McLain have taken two Olympic team gold medals, a World Equestrian Games team silver and grand prix victories in such classics as Devon, the President's Cup, the American Invitational, the Hampton Classic and the $1 million (Canadian) CN International at Spruce Meadows. It is, in short, a long and incredible record.

Sapphire, like all the great horses, has a sense of occasion and knows when her performance really counts. She gathers in the admiring fans as she heads toward the first fence, keeping them leaning forward throughout her round until she is safely through the finish line and they can breathe again. Offering a sense of controlled strength, soaring over the fences with authority, Sapphire does what is necessary with a sense of purpose that is palpable even from the top row of the grandstand.

Look out for the new Breyer Sapphire (no. 9107) model horse for the new 2010 Mid-Year Releases.

Breyer Animal Creations® is excited to announce that it will be unveiling its newest creation, a portrait model of the Belgian show jumper mare Sapphire at the 2010 Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows. Breyer® selected Sapphire to be the focus of its most recent creation based on her hugely successful career with rider McLain Ward.

The unveiling will take place at Old Salem Farm on Saturday, May 22, during the exhibitor ice cream party at approximately 3:30 p.m. In attendance will be Ward, as well as representatives from Breyer.
