Description: Sapphire,
the Belgian Warmblood mare that carried U.S. Equestrian Team
rider McLain Ward to two Olympic Gold medals, is sure to go
down in show jumping history books as one of the greatest
grand prix horses ever.
This year, they are a strong candidate for a medal in the
2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games with a recent win in
the $500,00 FTI Consulting Finale Grand Prix in Wellington,
FL. In 2009, the pair collected 23 U.S. Equestrian
Federation wins (including an unprecedented five Grand Prix
victories in 21 days), and earnings of
more than one million
dollars. Sapphire also scored a double clear in the Grand
Prix of Aachen (Germany, one o the most prestigious classes
in the world, and prevailed in a thrilling jump-off against
2008 individual Olympic Gold medalist, Eric Lamaze, in the CN $1 Million Grand Prix at the Spruce Meadows Masters in
Calgary (Alberta, Canada).
